Lili’s Proto Lab
Lili’s Proto Lab (LPL) is a place for you to test your creative ideas and materialize them into a working prototype. From 3D printing and laser cutting to microfluidics and robotics, in the LPL you get to practice with various prototyping methods and refine your ideas. Just sign up via the form!
We are a prototyping space within the university, primarily catering to the Faculty of Science. For the
past 2 years, our team has worked hard to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all UU
members to learn, create, and collaborate. As well as students, we take on teachers, technicians and
researchers and help them reach their prototyping goals.
Our vision is an Utrecht University where the physical creation of novel and useful objects is
a regular part of the academic repertoire.
Is LPL just a hub for DIY-nerds?
No, DIY-nerds are always welcome but most of our users are beginners. We keep our threshold low by
offering introductory workshops, fun activities to get people through the door and most importantly offer 1:1 mentorship with project owners. Our education model focuses on upskilling anyone who starts a project so that they can start determining their own approach, making mistakes and learning from them. By upskilling our community
members we become responsible for project management, tool usage and safety and the project
owners can focus on their learning and making something valuable for education or research.
Ultimately, we endeavor to be the hub at the center of a community of makers. A community excited
to experiment with hardware, build things themselves and support others around them. Demonstrating to current and new UU’ers just how easy it is to just to come, try and learn prototyping.
